Inseparable in high school we see the three girls face growing up in a rapidly changing world, a world that loses its innocence as they lose theirs. After college, they go their own ways until they are reunited years later only to find they have very little left in common-or is that really the case? Side splittingly funny at times and bitingly real at others, Vanities is true in its depiction of people so caught up in life they forget to notice the truly important things around them.

Fall Cinema Symposium

Wednesday October 13th at 7 p.m.

Producers like Arkoff and Castle were often far more creative in finding ways to get you into the theatre then they were with what you saw when you got there. While "Emergo", "Illusion-O" and free life insurance were high concepts, their execution left a lot to be desired. Please join Ted McKosky as he takes a look at the fine, if not a little underhanded, art of getting people to buy movie tickets.

Of all mankind's wars the bitterest battles are those waged between human hearts. The Lion in Winter is James Goldman's intriguing drama of the politics of love as played out in one of history's famous families. The immensely popular 1968 film version won actress Katharine Hepburn an Academy award and won the play a permanent place on the stage. With its fierce wit, timeless humanity, and epic scope, The Lion in Winter has been likened to the works of Shakespeare.

Friends Trudy and Betty rent a summer cottage hoping for some fun and relaxation. It might sound like a set up for an ill-fated sitcom. Then they are joined by a quiet young man who just might be a serial killer and their "way out" landlady who invites a flasher to dinner. Betty's Summer Vacation is Christopher Durang's characteristically twisted take on violence, post-modernism, pleasure, selfishness, celebrity and sex, all treated with generous splashes of laughter and bizarre goings on.

Spring Cinema Symposium

"Putney Swope" is an irreverent satire that takes a look at racism and advertising in 1960's corporate America. Directed by Robert Downey Sr. and made on a shoestring, this film tips over every sacred cow it can find. Please join Ted McKosky as he presents an off the wall independent film classic. The film deals with adult themes in a mature manner.

It was the door slam heard around the world. With its premiere in 1879, A Doll's House struck a blow for the fledgling women's rights movement and propelled world drama into an age of social consciousness. When faced with the realization that the rules in her world are made by man, never to be broken by woman, heroine Nora Helmar makes a painful and irrevocable choice. The Radford University Department of Theatre & Cinema takes great pride in bringing this landmark drama to the stage.
