WHO?
Everyone interested in being a Theatre major is asked to schedule an Entry Interview, including both new and transfer students. You are welcome to schedule your theatre interview even if you haven’t yet received notice of acceptance to RU. Whether you are most interested in acting, design, directing, theatre technology, theatre history, teaching, or ‘doing it all,’ the Entry Interview is how to start.
WHAT?
At your entry interview, you will meet with theatre faculty members, where you can present examples of your creative work. This is your opportunity to assess your strengths and areas of interest on a college and professional level. Please dress for a job interview and note the following special instructions for these areas of emphasis:
--students especially interested in performance or directing are asked to bring a memorized audition piece
--students especially interested in theatre design or management are asked to bring a portfolio with samples of your creative work
WHERE?
Interviews will take place in Porterfield Hall, on the main RU Campus. You will meet your Theatre Department host in the lobby of the Pridemore Playhouse at the time of your appointment.
WHEN?
If you are a high school senior or a transfer applicant, please start making your plans now to complete the RU admission application and to visit our beautiful campus. We have designated some specific dates for entry interviews during the 2011-2012 school year. To schedule an interview, please contact Carl Lefko, Director of the School of Dance &Theatre, by email at clefko@radford.edu. The dates are:
Saturday, Jan. 28, 1 - 4 pm
Saturday, Feb. 25, 1 - 4 pm
Saturday, Apr. 21, 1 - 4 pm
Please contact us if you are unable to visit campus on these dates, but still interested in scheduling an entry interview. Theatre faculty members will help you schedule an individual visit. Incoming students who are unable to visit RU for geographical reasons will complete the entry interview at the beginning of their first semester.
WHY?
The entry interview is an important beginning to a productive college career. It is not an ‘elimination audition,’ but rather an opportunity to figure out where to start your college career with us based on your strengths and your areas of interest. It will also help you find the right academic advisor, area of emphasis, and plan of study.
