Golden Globe and
two-time Emmy winner Sally Struthers is the visiting
guest artist for Radford University’s Department of
Theatre and Cinema production of Lanford Wilson’s
Fifth of July. Struthers plays the role of
eccentric Aunt Sally Friedman.
Struthers played Gloria in the 1970s sitcom “All in
the Family” and now has a recurring role in WB TV’s
“Gilmore Girls.” She plays the nosy neighbor who is
occasionally seen peeking through a window.
Struthers also plays Mark Addy’s mother in the CBS
show “Still Standing.”
Appearing in
theatrical productions over the past 20 years,
Struthers had a three-year run with the Tommy Tune
production of Grease. Other credits include Broadway
productions of the female version of The Odd Couple,
Wally’s Café and Annie. Struthers has appeared in
several motion pictures, including Five Easy Pieces
with Jack Nicholson and The Getaway with Steve
McQueen and Ali McGraw. She was named the 2004 Best
Actress by the Los Angeles Director Theatre Awards
for her role as Louise Seger in Always, Patsy Cline
and won the 2003 Ovation Award as Best Featured
Actress in a Musical for her role as Agnes Gooch in
Mame.
Struthers said, “I just feel energized when I am
around young, talented people. So it’s always fun to
do that as a switchout from highly trained
professional older people who are also great, but
there is something about these kids that’s amazing.”
